sketches

Here is the other half of what I been doing lately sketching.  Some random some to help understand things, and to develop characters.

I've been working on my hair, it's sometimes difficult to figure out what type of face or hair will fit the character you're making, the more practice the better.

Now a days most of the time when I do sketches is to figure out an issue I'm having or when I'm on the bus/train.  It's like a relaxation technique /pet peeve, it shortens the time and awakens my mind creatively but I also hate staring at people for 20 or 40 minutes (that's if I'm not drawing them that is.)

This last one I did on the bus on the way to work, I think this one has potential to be something I'll come back and amp it up at a later date.

update

I been m.i.a on posting I have 3 jobs and I find it hard to stay creative while working hard for the "man".

With that said I do have something,  I been teaching my self on things and I decided to tackle cell shading or what I like to call shape shading.   I'm not going to lie I find it a little intimidating how to structure and where to put the shaded shapes without making the piece look crappy but with practice I'll get better.

So the one on the right is the first one I did, it's a character I'm working on.  I just finished getting him to where I wanted him then thought well why not shade him, but it didn't come out the way I wanted it to so the I set on a quest for betterment and looked at some reference to understand what I'm missing.    The second one is the character from Zone of the enders (great game by the way).  It was better but I knew I can push it hard.

I then did another page so found a nice reference of sagat from street fighter did a much better job.    At this point I'm thinking take the training wheels off and do one of my characters, I've been copying most my life so now's the time to do my own so I did Azic from one of my stories.   BY GORGE I THINK HE'S GOT IT!  It turned out good, I think I'll do his whole series like this.    Growing day by day to achieve the impossible.
