New Stuff

I've been M.I.A for a while I've been working on training my self , and getting these stories together.  So I am long over due for an update. 

First up is some stuff I've been working on for my story Epic of Drival.

This is a rough of the 8 golems that are in the story.

Here is the cleaned up line version of the golems, next is coloring and action poses.

As you can see I have already started with the color and action pose.  This action pose was a 30 min sketch (I've been doing a lot of timed drawing and painting lately to get better), I'll probably come back and do a more refined one.

Epic of Drival update

Here is an up date for Epic of Drival.  What I decided to do is work on only one or two series at a time.  I currently have around 10 and keep come up with more, so I weened it back to get things fully fleshed out so here is the update.

These are the Earth Golem and Shadow Golems there are 8 in total, I'm on 5 out of that 8 so 2 more should be coming soon.  Their place in the story is, the golems are there to help the guardians in battle.  They are huge colossus like beings with powers unique in each one of them. 

UPDATE!!!

It's been a while since I've been on here and uploaded, so this is long over due.   For a while I was mainly concerned about my skills as a designer/ concept illustration, I now feel more confident in those skills and it is time to work on my painting again, so here is what I been up to lately.

Also what I have started to do to get better is do speed painting. so for a while I will be doing 30 min or 1 hour long paint studies.   Here is the first in this effort to get better. 

Both of these were 30 min.

So here is some work I did at work, it can get boring having to stay in place for 8 or 9 hours especially when it's slow. So here is some stuff I did.

 So this first one on the right is the front concept of the monster from my dream. once again I couldn't really see it's face but I imagine it to be a  yoshimitsu type in the face.  looks good I need to work more on my muscles and the body now that I look at it looks a little plain I might fix that when I do some final renders.    On the left shinobi aka my mans n dem.  I wanted to do some shinobi fan art and  I have a few ideas I just need more reference ( which means looking up pics and playing the game which is all types of win there) because I could have sworn in the game he dose the lighting shield with both hands, but it  still makes for a nice drawing.

This is a mash up I have this character  from one of my stories, a young boy.  so one day I got bored at work and decided to kingdom heart him. No bad considering I haven't drawn anything KH in some years I want to go back and make it look better.   and yes that is a Crank Key Gem Blade.

dark hero dream sketch

So I tend to have some very wild dreams in which anything can happen, and in this update here is a dark hero I dreamed up.

So here is the original sketch.  I was messing around trying to get the idea down, Ive drawn it before (because that dream was almost a year old)  but couldn't get it where I wanted it.  this time I gotten a lot closer and I drew him from the back because that's how I saw him I didn't really see his face so I'm make shift one later.

I then picked the small one on the top I felt he had a good shape ( it's always the small ones that look the best). From there I did something diffrent instead of doing high quality lines then some shading, I just traced it then went back and did layers of shading.  I wanted to be free with it have fun though the shading needs more work I got my point across. I think I'm starting to gravitate towards that comic inking/shading look.   Also in the dream I was jet black aka that bat man beyond look.

Ok finally the last one I had like beetle like wings.  This is a good rough I want to come back and do a face and a front with that detailed comic shading but this was a good start. 

The dream for those that care:

I was on a tour group we where on a bus I think we were going to different schools or states or something, but we ended up in this small town.   I noticed there was this big house and a lot of people where going in, a good number of them where small children.  so I decided to see what was all the fuss, as I got in the house the tour guide mention it was a hunted house and that we were going to tour it and see some ghost.   I followed the group, not much happened so I ended up getting bored and some how I got lost from the group knowing that the tour guide said that everyone must stay together I rushed to try and find them so to not get in trouble, but I couldn't.

that's when I noticed the house started to come alive I was hearing noses and whispers seeing  things move and shadow people out the corner of my eye. It then started to turn violent and that's when I got really scared and wanted to get out.  It then felt like something was chasing me no matter how many doors I tried or even hiding I couldn't get out and it keep finding me. 

ll of a sudden I came upon this room there was no windows and no others doors.  The door slams shut behind me and and I can't open it.  I then notice there is a presence in the room it throws things and growls and screams at me I felt hopeless for a second but then I got mad very pissed it was like instead of saying I'm going to stand up to you, you can't take me!  I feel like fuck this I'm going to kill you! and then I went trough a transformation in to this being that was one of hate. 

Like instead of something holy I drew on my hate for this entity that wanted to harm me and I turned it in to energy to fight it with that same hate.  and of course there was a high impact like fight where I was trying to kill this entity and we started damaging the house then I woke up.

design study

So while trying to come up with a good monster type for one of my series, I keep feeling like I was running in to a road block.  I wanted to created this beast, this thing of evil that at the site of it you know it's evil, but no big slime monster or the  typical devil half man and goat that we seen so many times, something different but can still symbolize the image of a devil.  While I was drawing up concepts I noticed something they tend to look alien or dragon like, which is good but not what I'm aiming for.   So that made me do a quick study ( that I will continue) about what we see as unholy or evil. 

So what I came up with so far (after looking at tons of images) is that we categorize something "evil" if we can't recognize it.  If things that we see in our everyday life where to become twisted we view it as bad.   So the more you take something that is part of our norm and mangle it, deform, add things that shouldn't be there,  give it a menacing look, that fear of the unknown makes use see it as evil.

I tested it out in the drawing above.  

On the left there is a guy with a birth defect, now more common place but back in the times before advanced medicen things like the eliphant man where a big thing.  people who didn't accpt him saw him as an atrosity while others felt remorse because they saw a man in pain.  In today's time people are scearded but are more aware and tend to feel more remorese.  

Now if you where to amp it up and lets say the same man got burnt (first time me doing a burn victim drawing, needs more shading and freddy references so hang with me if you don't see it as burnt.) but still had recognizable features some would be scared but would still feel remorse because they can see it was from a accident he didn't always look like that. so they still accepted him.

Lastly what if for some god awful reason he didn't heal right, he swollen up and stayed that way. a bad reaction to the meds, something that horribly disfigured him beyond recognition.  people would see it as more monster then human.

I noticed this when looking through the images that the more you disfigured something that was noticeable, or add something or in some cases subtract something it creeped you out and the more you added or took away pushed it toward the unknown were others can see it as evil.
